How Not to Talk to Your Kids
"When parents praise their children’s intelligence, they believe they are providing the solution to this problem. According to a survey conducted by Columbia University, 85 percent of American parents think it’s important to tell their kids that they’re smart. (...) The constant praise is meant to be an angel on the shoulder, ensuring that children do not sell their talents short. But a growing body of research—and a new study from the trenches of the New York public-school system—strongly suggests it might be the other way around. Giving kids the label of “smart” does not prevent them from underperforming. It might actually be causing it."

There is going to be a Dragon Age Movie? With Felicia Day? Oooh ... never played the game, but must watch anyway, I guess :D

Not so much my kind of music*, but it's a really nice trailer mashup (without any story and like ... 200 movies used or so?). Beware, 15 minutes long! But, well, cool. Even if it is very quick and visually exhausting, too :D Many flashy images, don't watch if prone to seizures ^^. I see it as a nice way to show a collection of amazing movie moments ... as in, what is possible and done in movies today. And there is Nuada in it, lol.

*screw that, after watching that thing for the third or forth time now, I actually enjoy the music quite a lot.

So, I somehow wanted to make this post for ages, I don't actually know why ... most of you probably know most of the comics I will show you here. Anyway, maybe there is one or another you don't know yet.

I want to warn now: There is indeed adult material under the cut and it's a NSFW entry for sure.

It could happen that I expand this entry in the future.
Other recommendations welcome!

This makes me really sick. What are we doing to our planet? :-/

I want that. Or this one, don't care.

I think I promoted nivbeds art before. If you liked the stuff, you will also like the stuff of robot-kun.

Really nice entry about trying to stop to be afraid of death (for non-believers).

The Garden of Cosmic Speculation. I want to go there, seriously. Scotland is not that far away, but it's only open to the public one day a year ... err, damn, this year it was the 2nd of May. Well, next year then, I suppose.

So you need a typeface ...

Did you know, that there is no polaroid film made anymore? But that some fans of polaroid came together and bought the last factory that makes the polaroid films and now run it themselves? How awesome is that?

So, if you are a gamer or feel close to the gaming community or just enjoy watching comedy, check out The Guild. I can *not* be the last one to discover this (yeah, probably I am, I know), so I wanted to spread the love. OMG, I can't wait for the start of season 4!!!

http://www.watchtheguild.com/ - official website (most episodes are there, just the last 2-3 not) you'll even find some seasons subtitled in other languages (if someone know where to see season 1 subtitled in german, tell me, there seems to be just seasons 2 ... my english is good enough usually, but i noticed i by far don't get everything).
http://www.youtube.com/user/watchtheguild - youtube channel with season 1 & 2 and their song :D
and yes, I am ashamed I love this song so much! ^^;;;;

I just called unitymedia.de cause they took over 150 Euro from my bank account and I had no idea why. We canceled our contract a while ago and I guessed it had a reason, I just didn't knew what kind of reason. So I called and asked. And what did they say? Oh, it was a mistake. Okay, so you took over 150 Euro from my bank account by accident and if I wouldn't have called the money would've just been lost for me? Now THAT is great. Not. Pffff!

Speaking of money, I REALLY have to write bills.

Interesting! If I had time left (hahahaha!) I'd read more about that. I think it's quite important (I mean, thinking about AIs and what will happen to our world if we create powerful AIs.).

- Today I tried MezzoMix* Zero and it actually tasted good! No sweetener-aftertaste at all. Seemes like a good alternative to coke.
* MezzoMix is half Coca Cola and half Fanta, it's sold as a regular lemonade in Germany. I haven't seen it in the UK and suspect it only exists in Germany/Austria/Switzerland.

- A poll from [livejournal.com profile] stellamira who writes a paper about LJ.

- I enjoy the flash course, the teacher has very confusing explanations, but is also very helpful. I learn something, so it's okay. We have lot's of breaks ;)

- Studying all day + driving to work right afterwards = elfy tired. The next 6 weekends or so are half full or full with various plans. All in all much stuff I'm looking forward too, but still, it's also scary.

Break is over.

Very neat little movie about where stuff (consumer goods) comes from, where it goes to etc. I knew about everything mentioned there, but not everybody does and so I thought I pass it on. It's also nice to have everything together in a short movie like that.

And here a link to the article the website was featured in:

Modern-day capitalism requires constant growth, and lately this pace of growth has been accelerated. If growth stagnates or a contraction sets in, the consequences would be catastrophic. (...) It may be a little ironic but the capitalists of today have much in common with the Marxists of yesterday. Both look upon the future as an endless period of inevitable growth. Likewise, both see the environment as an exploitable resource, and have an unwavering faith in the virtue of technological progress. Consequently, both are of the belief that nothing must stand in the way of this inevitable progress - including the environment.

Regarding the new ebook reader from amazon...
The Future of Reading
(Yesterday in the tram I wondered if the solution to this would be the impossibility to copy ebooks... this would make them tradeable just like a normal book and you could lend it out and you could buy it 'used'... yes, I know there are probably 100 reasons against that and it's not possible and all that and was done with music and was bad, but for me music is something different. While you always could copy music (making mixtapes for friends etc.), copying a whole real book to give it to someone is rarely done. All this putting aside the fact that I love printed books and wouldn't want to miss them.)

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
Tonight I dreamt I was in love. *sigh* It was really nice (because, well, the guy loved me back, you know). He just wasn't the type of man I'd expect falling in love with, but I didn't mind it (I mean his appeareance, actually I can't remember much about his character). Well, subconsciousness, it is nice that you let me dream that, but I already know I'd like to be in love again. And I mean being in love like I was when I was 15 and 16, which is quite some time ago and about what I fear it will never ever comes back again. < /sniff and whine>

Yesterday night my boss was here, to bring me my handy which I forgot at work. We had some talk and I showed him the roof. Unfortunatly I totally forgot that last night were the perseid meteor shower. But well, in the city it wouldn't have been too impressive anyway. At least I hope so.

I a few hours my mother and my grandmother will be here. Until then I want to feed zorns cats, dye my hair and get my mothers computer ready so she can take it home with her again. Finally.

Also: best wishes to all left-handers on my friendslist, today is the international left-handers day :) *is not a lefthander herself*
(When searching for a good link about information on this day, I found a funny calendar... and this interesting one, too.)

First of all: I got a very, very sweet package from [livejournal.com profile] concubine! Thank you SO much for that! :DDD *dance* *happyjoy* :-*

And thanks for everyone who took part in the poll!

So, tomorrow I'll go to Hamburg. It will be nice, I guess.
I feel very strange this evening. Very... restless and I can't calm down. I have no clue why. I was at work quite long and... don't know. Hope it will be better once I lie in my bed. Good night.

Oh an, for everyone interested: http://my.calendars.net/elfy/ (sorry, most dates are in german)
If you've got something similar online, tell me :)
I think LJ should have something like this.

* * * * * * *

Gute Nacht!

Achja, wen es interessiert...: http://my.calendars.net/elfy/
Wenn jemand was vergleichbares hat, bitte zeigen :)
Ich finde ja, LJ sollte sowas haben.

edit: OMG, I just found the *real* stuff... o.O Look at the CG Gallery (Three dots, above the bunny), it's... wow. Really.
See... One, Two, Three, Four, Five, Six, Seven, Eight, Nine,...

So, just some short entry, before go on working. I noticed I don't write much the last days. This week was 'okay' regarding work, but not 'good', as I missed one day as I drove home to visit my grandma on her birthday (she was very happy :)). At least I'll get done my minimum hours I set myself, maybe some more.

The last days were very warm and yesterday evening as well as the day before I was in the Volksgarten, wednesday with the LaLic group (we didn't even went to the Lic!) and yesterday with [livejournal.com profile] zorn alone who was so nice to give me some company. I somehow had the urge to go outside on such an evening.
They are selling Litschis in the Plus, not sure what to think about that o.O.
Yesterday Töffi, Tanja (a friend and customer of my boss) and I had sushi (ah, so expensive! But the Tamago were tasty) after we visited a diploma-works exhibition at the KISD. Today my meal *has* to be cheaper, like, a lot.

This evening I will join [livejournal.com profile] zorn going to a concert (Crüxshadows) and on satureday I definatly need to sleep in. Then I'll get some chores done and in the evening is Monikas birthday party.

Tilda Swinton is a very beautiful woman, I think.
I got back 6 Soulbooks from [livejournal.com profile] strakur in Wiesbaden, yay, I'm the hero!
Have to go to the gynaecologist very soon, ran out of my pills.
Yesterday evening I spent too much time here.
I started a dream journal, lets see how I long I can keep it.

* * * * * * * * * * *
