# 5% of the people who read you are pissed off that you didn't comment on one of their important posts. They're withholding sex - sorry, I meant comments - until you understand how important they are, and maybe send some flowers or something.
I think 5% is wayyy to little... and it lacks:
1% (me) finds the topic too important to post a comment and waits for a good opportunity to talk about it in person or at least via IM.
The most useful suggestion: Ask a question in your post. When I ask a question I usually get a lot more comments than when I don't. Obvious when you think about it, isn't it?
If you want comments and have a fannish flist, just make mention of something fandomish. I've seen some amazingly heartfelt personal posts that get one or two comments followed by a post consisting of "Gimli is so hot" with 26 comments.
Polls are also interesting in that suddenly you see people responding that you haven't heard from in years.
Hah, I always thought that if comments were really important you could keep track of individuals that comment a lot in your friend's LJ and then make a deliberate policy of friending those individuals.
Ach, ertappt weniger. ;)
