See the swimming pool in the middle? I think it's part of the YMCA I will be staying at in Nairobi. Seems to be a really good neighbourhood. And it might be we'll have single rooms ... we'll see!
Oh and - it's raining season there right now >.< At least I already bought a raincape. Oh well.

Date: 2009-05-07 12:54 am (UTC)Rainy season in the East African highlands may not be what you have in mind. The weather there is still clear and sunny and warm, like in the dry seasons. The difference is that there are these little rains that move across the land quickly. You can see them far away, and pretty quickly you'll get a good sense of how to judge their direction and distance and size. So you can tell which ones are going to hit you, in about how long, and about how long they'll last. You'll see a clump of raincloud in the distance and decide it's not heading for you. A couple of hours later you'll spot another one, and see that you're going to get rain in 40 minutes, and that it'll probably last about 15 minutes. And so on.
Maybe it's a little harder if you're in the city all the time and can't see the rains as easily until they get closer.
