Money, school, reaslistic hourly wage (haha!)

Money is such an annoying issue. Way too important. I just calculated what I earned 2008 and it's really not bad (but damn, where did all that money go?!), but it seems, 2008 will be the first year I'll have to pay income tax, because I earned more than the tax allowance. Eeek!!! *sigh* Oh well. On the other hand I got accepted at the artists social health insurance (Künstlersozialkasse), which means I'll only have to pay half of what I paid before, for my health insurance, so yay! I'll even get back a bit, unfortunatly not as much as I hoped I would.
Damn, it's again and again a good feeling to know I'm somehow handling this and since three years! One of the things about myself I'm really proud of.

The weekend will be busy! Friday I'll go to a birthday party, saturday is oloriels wedding, where Thomas and I will dj. Sunday there is a concert in Bochum which we will attend, ASP unplugged. I'm looking forward to it!

And next week the semester starts again, I'm looking forward to it! At least to the seminar, I'm not that sure about my hand-project right now. I checked yesterday when I was at the school, only four people seem to attend it. Thats really, really not much. I wonder if it will be skipped? And if yes, what else will I do? But I don't really worry about it, I'm quite relaxed.
In general ... yes, I'm quite relaxed right now, I guess. Yes, looking for flatmates is tiring, looking for commissions* is tiring, but still.
The only real disturbance right now is that days pass too quickly and it feels as if I don't use them right, but waste too much time. I hope it will change as soon as the semester starts again.

* I decided not to call it job hunt anymore. It just makes more sense and somehow gives me a better feeling. Because I *have* a job, I'm a freelancer! And I do have commissions right now, just not enough, so I need more.

About the tax thingy: last years, the tax guys took money from me as if I'd have worked for the full year. Since I was studying for half the last year, that wasn't true. When I complained this spring about that, they paid me about 2/3 of my month's income back. Sometimes it's worth to go through all those papers. ^^

Glückwunsch, dass du in die Künstlersozoalkasse geschafft hast, das scheint ja auch nicht so ganz einfach zu sein. Vor allem höre ich immer wieder von Freunden, dass die unglaublich lange Bearbeitungszeiten haben. Ich bin momentan noch bei meinen Eltern mitversichert, aber nächstes Jahr wenn ich 25 werde, werde ich mich auch darum kümmern.

Die beiden verlinkten Artikel sind wirklich interessant, auch wenn die angegeben Stundenlöhne teilweise völlig unrealistisch sind. Das ist so ein Thema, das mich schon lange ärgert. Auch z.B. jedes mal wenn man Profs bei uns an der Schule fragt wie man denn da so vorgeht mit ner Abrechnung, beinhaltet die Antwort meist solch hohe Stundenlöhne, dass der Kunde schreiend in die andere Richtung rennen würde >_>

Ich halte auch absolut nichts davon sich unter Wert zu verkaufen, was leider viele Illustratoren besonders im Bereich Kinderbuch tun, aber man kann doch auch nicht völlig den Bezug verlieren. Solche Tariftabellen sind eins, die Realität meist was ganz anderes.

Ich finde es generell auch sehr schade, dass sowas nicht and den Uni gelehrt wird, zumindest bei uns nicht. Dieses ganze Zeug wie Vertragsrecht, Kalkulation von Honoraren, Steuern, Künstlersozoalkasse etc. ist doch dermaßen wichtig. Was hilfst wenn man künstlerisch ein toller Illustrator ist, aber von der geschäftlichen Wirklichkeit keinerlei Ahnung hat. Ich hätte mir echt gewünscht, dass da die Profs und Dozenten ein wenig von ihren Erfahrungen wietergegeben hätten, aber wenn man danach fragt wird man immer nur auf Bücher verwiesen. Klar muss man selbstständig sein und sich auch selber um sowas kümmern, aber ein bisschen Erfahrungsvermittlung wäre schon schön, denn dafür sind die ja da. Ich fühle mich in der Hinisicht immer so komplett unvorbereitet.

Sorry für den ellenlangen Eintrag, ich musste mir einfach zu dem Thema gerade Luft machen.
