print or non-print?

I would like to have your opinion, please.

As all or hopefully at least most of you know, I am right now on my way to be a mediadesigner. To be exact, I am a mediadesigner specialised in design - print.
This print is the... 'problem' or the thing I have a little hassle about. Here, where I learn, they can only teach me print, which means making flyers, brochures, booklets etc.
Non-print, which I would be more interessted in is making websites, working with flash etc. But I couldn't learn that here.

BUT there is the possibility I anyway take it as a direction, so I will learn about it in school at least. That also means, all my final tests will be about non-print. What I will learn in school will be far from the things I have to know for the final tests, so I would have to learn all that at home, beside my normal apprenticeship.
But in the end I would be a non-print media-designer.

So... what do you think?
Going on learning print, liking it, but being not totally satisfied and having a harder time finding a non-printer job after the apprenticeship

OR

learning non-print, having a harder way now, because noone here at work will be able to help me with the internet stuff, but hoping I can do it myself (i will have help from other pupils, but...). Hoping I will manage the test and being a non-print designer afterwards.

Non-Print. Especially if it would boost your overall happiness in the long run. Besides, what's life without a little adventure. If you're really sincerely focused on it, the extra time and effort in it will be more satisfying then if you were doing something easy but not enjoying yourself (at least I think so).

do what you like more. because it's of no use if you do something that doesn't fully satisfy you.. i think you would miss something then *smiles* whatever you chose, good luck!!!

Ich würd dir auch raten, keine halben Sachen zumachen... Ich meine, wenn du es wirklich willst, dann wird der dir Weg auch nicht ganz so schwer fallen *smile*

Well, I go with the rest of the commenters (and pollers): Do non-print. Even if it takes more effort - if it's what you truly want to do, it will be far more satisfying.

Ich habe Anfangs etwas gemacht, was mir nicht unbedingt lag. Jetzt mache ichs nicht mehr... allerdings wird das 'nicht mögen' zum Ende hin sehr krass im Vergleich zu deiner Situation gewesen sein :)

Ich schließe mich den anderen hier an.
Eigentlich klingt das für mich schon so, als hättest du dich doch längst schon entschieden. Tief in deinem Inneren zumindest. ^^ Du solltest auf jeden Fall das machen, was dir auch richtig Spaß macht, also non-print. Und ich denke mal auch, dass du das Lernen alleine schaffst. Wenn du Gefallen daran findest, dann klappt das schon. ^_^

Du solltest schon, dass machen was du am Liebsten machen würdest, denn du sollst ja damit ein Grossteil deines Lebens damit verbringen.

Ich experimentiere auch ein wenig mit HTML herum, wegen meiner Clanhomepage etc.
Auch habe ich mir mir Flash MX gezogen, aber leider noch nicht so viel damit machen können.
Ich denke schon, dass es schaffbar ist. Die Hauptsache dabei ist wohl Die Kreativität und die Beherrschung der Tools.

1. Mach was dir eher liegt, anders taugt's ned.
2. Ich mach beides, print und non-print, und ich würde nicht sagen das das eine schwieriger oder leichter ist als das andere. Manches sieht zwar auf den ersten Blick aus wie O.O aber wenn man sich die Zeit nimmt und sich mit den Sachen auseinandersetzt, dann packt man auch die benötigten Programme in 2-3 Tagen.

Print. I have the same problem, by the way, and I thought about it... in German ;-)

Wenn du dich bewirbst kommt es in erster Linie auf deine Mappe an, denke ich, und nicht so sehr darauf, was im Zeugnis steht - abgesehen davon sind die Überschneidungen ziemlich groß - in der Abschlussprüfung wird das Material das gleiche sein, nur das was rauskommt nicht.
Du hast schon eine Menge Webdesign-Erfahrung. Und ich denke, Print ist schwieriger im Alleingang zu lernen - Farbseparationsmethoden mit der Druckerei absprechen etc. ..es ist ja nicht nur QuarkXPress.
Ich habe mich jetzt für mich entschieden, Print zu machen, weil ichs so die größte Bandbreite abdecken kann. Und keiner hindert mich, die Print-Abschlussprüfung für meine Mappe nochmal digital umzusetzen ;-)

* Wir machen übrigens gerade als Abschlussaufgabe Print die Prüfung von vor ein paar Jahren, das Projekt "Sacred Landscape" - und es ist ganz witzig zu sehen, was andere mit dem Material, das ich selber auch meinem Rechner in der Schule habe, gemacht haben:
